Position Description

Dynetics, an employee-owned company, is seeking a talentedHardware Product Design Engineerto join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems.

The Product Engineering Department is a design-focused group of engineers specializing in advanced hardware products. The individual selected for this position will be a design engineer with varied technical interests and demonstrated engineering skills. The individual must be a self-starter with experience working with inter-disciplinary teams to solve challenging technical problems. The engineer will work closely with hardware integrated into a diverse range of aerospace and military systems including manned/unmanned ground/air vehicles, missiles, defensive radars, and space systems.

The selected candidate will be expected to execute in a fast-paced, small team environment through all phases of the product life cycle from conceptual development and detailed design through manufacturing, qualification testing, and post-delivery support. The engineer will be responsible for architecting, implementing, and testing printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) including power supply, mixed-signal, FPGA, and microcontroller designs.

With a product focus, the individual is also expected to actively partner with other engineers, project managers, technicians and the customer to develop solutions that adhere to a diverse set of requirements. Additionally, the engineer will support resolution of technical issues that are discovered during the manufacture and test of deliverable hardware. This will include troubleshooting board-level issues, assessing failures for root cause, and identifying corrective actions.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution

  • At least 5-10 years of relevant experience

  • Advanced knowledge of digital/analog/mixed signal electronics, components, and interface/communication standards

  • Proven experience in hardware design and test from architecture through implementation

  • Experience in the design, test, troubleshooting, and manufacture of complex multi-layer electronic circuit card assemblies

  • Experience with digital design and troubleshooting in the area of embedded processors, microcontrollers, or VHDL-based FPGAs; or with detailed switched-mode power supply (SMPS) design

  • Hands-on laboratory experience with instrumentation, test equipment, and debug/test methods

Other Qualifications

Preferred candidates will also meet some of the following:

  • Experience with multiple high-speed serial communication standards and memory interfaces (e.g. GigE, 10 GigE, Aurora, DDR2, DDR3, DDR4, JESD204B, PCIe, SATA)

  • Experience with rigid-flex, microvia, blind via, and buried via printed circuit board design

  • Experience managing design teams including technical leadership, budgeting, and scheduling

  • Hands-on experience with Mentor Graphics electrical engineering development tools

  • The ideal candidate will thrive in a learning environment that encourages leadership and technical growth.

  • Additional skills such as signal integrity analysis, power distribution network design, basic VHDL proficiency, experience with technical trade studies, and evaluation of technology improvements are a plus.
